In a world that is constantly changing and moving at a rapid rate, it’s often very difficult to find time to hit the gym. Squeezing in a 30-minute workout is no simple task. Most of the time, the best way to fit in your daily workout is either before or after work.
Unfortunately, this means you’ll more than likely be carrying some of your most valuable possessions. It is not uncommon for other members of your gym to notice the phone, wallet, or jewelry you are stashing away while you lift weights. But don’t worry, there are ways to prevent your stuff from being stolen. One way in particular.
One of the most widely suggested ways to prevent theft while you work out is to keep your possessions in your car. Storing your items in the trunk, under the car seat, or locked away in the glove compartment are all good suggestions. But what about your keys?
Although some vehicles have a keypad system that allows you to open and lock your door without using a key, this feature is not too common. And keyless entries are often quite expensive to install. What if you are expecting a call or you want to purchase a drink but don’t carry cash? You’ll need to bring your phone or wallet with you. Leaving your items in your car can be a viable solution but it may not be the best one.
Most—if not all—gyms have lockers in their changing rooms. They may be available to use free of charge or you may need to rent one. Either way, a locker can be a good solution for keeping your items safe while you work out. Purchase a secure combination lock, place your valuables inside and you’re good to go. But are you?
Although gyms are equipped with cameras to monitor the floor, you will not find one in the locker room due to the invasion of privacy. It would take very little effort for someone to cut the lock off your locker and take your items. Someone could use your credit card to purchase a big screen TV before you even break a sweat. Valuables are stolen from gym lockers much more than you realize.
It is much more difficult for someone to steal your things when you are holding them. A thief would need to confront you directly in order to take your valuables. This is very unlikely. However, with all the movements that you make while working out, it is very possible that your items could slip out of your pockets very easily.
Holding your things in your hands only to put them down during your next set isn’t the smartest of moves either. You will make yourself a target for theft and more than likely forget to grab your things as you move to the next machine. But there is an ultimate solution.
A Toronto-based company named H2O has recently launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter for their new product the H2O Capsule. It is a water bottle that contains a patent-pending compartment near the handle that will securely hold your phone, credit card, and keys.
As you exercise, just make sure your water bottle is always within eyesight and you’ll have peace of mind during your entire workout. Just don’t forget to take your water bottle with you. No amount of security measures can protect against absent-mindedness.
