Teen Shooting Suspect At Large in California After Multiple People Injured

Every parent’s worst nightmare is currently unfolding at a high school in Santa Clarita, California. Based on preliminary reports, at least five people are injured after a campus shooting at Saugus High School after a gunman opened fire early this morning. The suspect is still at large and the campus, as well as nearby schools,  are currently on lockdown.

Police Searching for Suspect

The shootings took place at the Saugus High School campus located at 21900 Centurion Way in Santa Clarita, CA sometime before 8:00 a.m. local time. The high school, as well as, the Rosedell Elementary School and the Highland Elementary School which are located nearby are on lockdown as authorities search for the shooter.

According to the sheriff’s department, the suspect is described as a 15-year-old male wearing a black hat and black clothing. Local television footage showed several students on gurneys being taken to ambulances in the parking lot of school.

Warning from Sherrif’s Office

Tweets from the Sheriff’s Department of Santa Clarita within the last few minutes indicate the suspect is still at large. The Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Office warns, “If you live in neighborhoods anywhere near Saugus High, PLEASE LOCK DOORS and stay inside. If you see suspect, male dark clothing, in backyards, etc. CALL 911”. They are asking people to avoid the area as there is a large amount of police activity at both the school and the surrounding neighborhoods.

The department also tweeted a reunification point for parents which is at Central Park on Bouquet Canyon. If your child attends school, this is the area you need to go to get information and find your child. Do not go to the school as this is an active investigation and they have multiple officers on-site protecting children as they are transported to the reunification point.

In the latest tweets we’ve learned that not only Rosedell and Highland Elementary schools are on lockdown, but all schools in William’s Hart School District. The shooter is still at-large at the time of this release.

UPDATE

New reports are coming in that the suspect is now in custody and wounded from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. It is believe that the suspect is part of the student body.
