There’s a new danger on the horizon: Murder Hornets. Properly known as Vespa Mandarinia, these hornets are the largest in the world. They can be 1.5 to 2 inches long and have a very strong stinger.
Right now they are primarily confined to the upper northwest, but once they have a foothold in the country, it could just be a matter of time before they spread across the country. They sting multiple times and the pain is excruciating.
Protect yourself from Murder Hornets as you would all dangerous predators. Be aware of your surroundings. If you are going hiking in the woods where they make their nests, make sure that you have a buddy with you who can go for help.
If walking alone, let people know where you are going so that they know to search for you if you don’t return. While not necessarily fatal in humans, the pain can be debilitating, and if you have a reaction, you could die.
