Ever think about how many people commit crimes when they’re elderly? Instead of finding out their humira medicare cost or medicaid options, they’re getting into some serious crime.
Let’s take a look at some of the most surprising facts about elderly people and crime.
According to The Sentinel, an 85-year-old man who had suffered a stroke two years erlier attacked his nurse. He even threatened to kill her.
The police questioned him. He said he was confused. Apparently, he had no recollection of the attack.
A study by doctoral student Madeliene Liljeren from 2015 looked at about 2,000 elderly patients. The patients stayed at the UCSF Memory and Aging Center.
Liljegren found that 9% of those same patients committed a crime after their dementia set it. This likely happens because dementia can disrupt the parts of the brain that control empathy and judgment.
