If you need a dentist in a hurry, your best bet is going with an accredited dentist, even if you end up paying a little more. But if you are in the market for a new dentist, here are some things to look for to make sure that your dentist is reputable and capable.
Make sure that in addition to the degree on the wall, the dentist is listed with the ADA, the American Dental Association’s website. You can also check to see that they are listed with the General Dental Council (GDC) and the Care Quality Commission.
Look out for fraud. Are they constantly telling you you need the newest procedures? You have the right to ask for a second opinion. Don’t get a root canal if you don’t need it. Don’t let them take X-Rays every visit. While they may have good suggestions on products to buy, like ergonomic toothbrushes, don’t let them upsell you every time you are there.
Beware if they promise to offer funding outside of reputable insurance, and always double-check your itemized bill.
