New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio held a moment of silence at this morning press briefing and said he was “heartbroken”, as authorities investigate a shooting in NYC that left a toddler dead and 3 adults injured.
Police said this morning that a 1-year-old boy was shot at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday night during a cookout near a playground in Brooklyn.
According to witnesses, two men jumped out of a car and fired multiple shots at the group before driving away.
Mayor de Blasio said, “We can never give up on our children, we can never give up on families, we can never give up on our neighborhoods, no matter how tough it seems.”
“Every resource is going to be used to find this killer.” de Blasio added.
Police said the toddler, Davell Gardner, was sitting in a stroller with a group of people at the barbecue when the baby boy was hit in the stomach. He died at the hospital.
Three men were hospitalized with gunshot wounds but are expected to survive.
