A longtime stalker with an obsession with “Total Divas” star Sonya Deville broke into her home in Florida on Sunday in an attempt to take her hostage, authorities said.
Phillip Thomas II, of South Carolina, traveled to the wrestler’s home in Tampa to commit a crime he had planned for eight months, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office.
The 24-year-old Thomas parked his car nearby Saturday night and walked to her house, cut a hole in the patio screen, and stayed there for hours, watching and listening through windows, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
Deville, whose real name is Daria Berenato, went to bed just before 3 a.m. Sunday.
Thomas went into the house through the back, opening the sliding glass door and setting off the alarm. That’s when the wrestler looked out the window and saw a man on her property.
She and her guest fled the home in a car and called 911 before Thomas could get near them.
Deputies arrived and caught the suspect still inside the house with mace, duct tape, plastic zip ties, and other items, authorities said.
If not for the alarm, there may have been a different outcome.
