Shooting Suspect of 3 Texas Officers Surrenders, Releases Hostages

After barricading himself in an Austin-area home overnight, the shooting suspect of three Texas police officers surrendered Monday morning.

The Cedar Park Police Department said the suspect, whose name has not been released, is in his mid-20’s, and his final hostage left the home “peacefully” after a more than 16-hour standoff.

Two of the officers were released from the hospital Monday morning, while a third underwent surgery.

Officers responded to the home Sunday afternoon and were shot upon entering the residence. Cedar Park Police shared multiple updates on the barricade situation overnight as officers remained on scene.

About an hour before the suspect surrendered, police said two of the hostages had been released. The hostages included the suspect’s mother, a child, and another family member.

According to a source the suspect was “dealing with some mental health issues”. Upon declaring the situation an active scene, police urged residents to stay inside their homes and advised others to remain clear of the areas.

Authorities have not identified the three officers wounded in the shooting.
